Maybe setting a higher latency will give the system enough resilience to overcome it.
If it works, then there’s some incompatibility between the M-audio driver and your system. I’ve tried, and I think one version may be called Virtual Audio Cable. OTOH if you still have problems, then that suggests a general system configuration issue. Asip in this thread Sib.
